India won the toss and batted first for the second game in three days at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The home side made 177-7 from their 20 overs. With fifties from their captain Vikrant Keni and opener Jaffar Bhat. Just like the opening game there were two wickets apiece for England’s Anthony Clapham and captain Callum Flynn.
In reply England made 142-9 from their 20 overs. Flynn the highest scorer with 48 from 41 balls and an impressive 32 not out for number seven Brendon Parr.
England face India at Gujarat College on Thursday for game three.
After impressive bowling figures of 2-27 Clapham gave his thoughts: “It was a tough game today. We bowled well in the powerplay, but we probably could have fielded better. We probably gave them 10-15 runs through dropped catches. The spinners bowled well and our last three or four overs of the innings were much better than the first game.
“The pitch played better than the last game and we had a good start through Callum Flynn and Liam O’Brien, but we lost a few wickets in the powerplay. I think it was in the overs between 10 and 15 in both innings that were the difference. We were a bit slower at scoring in our innings and they really attacked it.
“Frustrating, but this still only our second game on grass out here in India, in these different conditions. We’ve lost the toss and had to bowl first twice. With the dew it skids on that little bit more for the first innings. When we batted second the ball didn’t run to the boundary on the outfield, so we had to run a lot of twos and threes, whereas theirs had run for fours.
“We know we now need to win three in a row to win the series. The team are hurting, but we’ll go again and try to make it right.”
