Amad Diallo ‘situation plain’ as Sunderland chief admits Manchester United ‘head on a stake’.

Amad has only featured once for Manchester United this season and could be on the move again in January, with the Championship team ready to reunite with the winger.

Sunderland manager Kristjaan Speakman has acknowledged the club is interested in bringing winger Amad Diallo back on loan. During his last stay with the team, he established himself by scoring 14 goals in 40 games, contributing significantly to their successful run to the Championship play-offs.

Following his successful season, Amad was called back to Manchester United. The Old Trafford management was happy with his performance at Sunderland and wanted to give him a chance to train in Erik ten Hag’s first team.

However, things did not go as planned, as Amad only made one appearance, as a substitute against Nottingham Forest, in August, before being injured. Now that he is fit, he is expected to compete with Antony and the other United forwards for a first-team berth for the remainder of the season, but Sunderland will continue to monitor his condition in the final days of the transfer window.

Sunderlands plans of signing him permanently seem unlikely due to financial constraints but they are among the clubs who are interested in acquiring the 21-year-old on loan. Sporting director Speakman expressed optimism about such a prospect citing his previous relationship with the club.

He stated: “The situation is clear. We have a positive relationship with the boy, his people and Manchester United. Can he improve us? Yes. Have we enquired? Yes. Have we kept in contact with him? Yes. My head would be on a stake if not!”

Speakman also acknowledged the challenges of bringing him back, saying: “Even if he became available we might not get him. I regard him as a tier one player. He is a tier one player. We would be lucky if we got him on loan again. The level he can play at. He loved his time here. He loved the players and staff.”

Meanwhile, Sunderland also plans to retain their star winger Jack Clarke. The forward, valued at £15million, will remain at Wearside to aid their quest for the play-offs unless a substantial bid comes their way.

Clarke has caught the eye of Premier League clubs with his impressive 13 goals in 30 games this season. Burnley and West Ham are interested, but Speakman said: “I get the news about selling players but our ambition is to retain our best players, develop them, go higher in the league. I don’t see any of those external moves happening. We have not had anything externally to consider.”

Alex Pritchard, another key player for the team, could stay longer as he’s been offered a new deal with his contract running out at the end of the season. Speakman explained: “Alex is an integral part of our position. From Alex’s perspective we will offer him an extension to his contract. We needed to do that, out of where his head was at. He is in a good position.”

Meanwhile, Michael Beale, the manager under pressure, has responded to fans calling for his dismissal after just seven matches. Despite losing four, he said: “I am a bit perplexed by the outside thing. Some people were not happy when I arrived before we had played a game. I have to keep working and by winning games it will change some people’s minds but not everyone.”

Beale dismissed talk of “a big crisis” and pointed out: “There has been a level of rancour. We had won two in nine before I came here. In the next nine we have won four. Everyone is aware of the noise in the background, but we can only focus on the job.”
