Cowboys want A.J. Dillon, who turns down Dallas and signs with the Packers again.
Another potential Dallas Cowboys running back is no longer available.
When it comes to free agent running backs, the Dallas Cowboys appear to have already struck out.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, A.J. Dillon agreed to return to the Green Bay Packers on a one-year deal on Thursday, eliminating another of their rumoured targets.
Dillon, 25, had been considered as a potential Cowboys target in recent days, but that was not to be. Most expected Dillon to leave Green Bay this offseason, as his running partner Aaron Jones did earlier in the week. However, he and the organisation were able to reach a deal to stay, forming a formidable running back duo with rookie Josh Jacobs.
The Cowboys have missed out on yet another running back. Other examples of running backs are Jones (Vikings), Derrick Henry (Ravens), Saquon Barkley (Eagles), Joe Mixon (Texans), and Zach Moss (Bengals).
Many Cowboys fans are outraged by the team’s lack of action at the running back position, with just Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner currently under contract (excluding fullback Hunter Luepke). Not helping to assuage supporters’ anxieties are claims that the Cowboys did not even call Henry, who expressed interest in going to Dallas, and that Moss’ $4 million per year salary was too high for Cowboys brass.
Dillon has spent his entire career with the Packers, racking up 2,428 yards and 16 touchdowns in four seasons. As he returns to Green Bay once again, Dallas’ options at running back are getting thinner and thinner.
