Friday’s Round of 64 contest in the West division of the bracket pits the Alabama Crimson Tide against the College of Charleston Cougars.
The Crimson Tide are the No. 4 seed in the tournament, thanks to an at-large bid for their outstanding season. They finished fourth in the SEC, with an overall record of 21-11 and a conference record of 13-5. They lost to Florida in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.
The Crimson Tide has made the last four NCAA Tournaments. Last season, they advanced the farthest in that time span, losing in the Sweet 16.
As for the Cougars, they won the Coastal Athletic Association tournament title game over Stony Brook, 82-79 in overtime. Reyne Smith made the final three free throws to save the game.
With that, they earned a No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They were a No. 12 seed in the tournament last season, losing in the first round. The Cougars have made six tournaments in their history.
The last time the Cougars made back-to-back tournaments was the 1998-99 seasons. They’ve never made it past the second round.
