Eric Kendricks’ new jersey number is certain to make Cowboys fans nostalgic.
Linebacker Eric Kendricks is the Dallas Cowboys’ only outside free agent signing nearly two weeks into NFL free agency.
Fans now know what jersey number the lone new guy sparking excitement will wear. And buckle up, because we’re going on a nostalgic trip.
Kendricks, who will most likely be the communication coordinator for Mike Zimmer’s defence after playing for him from 2015 to 2021, will wear No. 50 on the field in 2024, according to Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com.
That means Sean Lee’s No. 50 will be back out there with a starter. Although Devin Harper also used it with the Cowboys, he played six games for the franchise so I’m not sure we’re counting that.
Kendrick’s new jersey number will sure make fans nostalgic as Lee, a fan favorite for over a decade, will always be one of the ultimate what if stories of the franchise. When healthy, he was a Hall of Fame-caliber player. But injuries consistently kept him off the field, playing only one 16-game season in his career despite three Pro Bowls and one year of First-Team All-Pro honors.
Hopefully, Kendricks meets expectations. The 32-year-old linebacker is a savvy player whose instincts can still be seen on film, and his experience of Zimmer’s defence will help the Cowboys go ahead after Dan Quinn left to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders.
Kendricks previously wore 54 with the Minnesota Vikings and 6 with the Los Angeles Chargers last year.
In other jersey news, Walker stated that safety Sheldrick Redwine is switching from No. 36 to No. 20, the number Tony Pollard wore before joining the Tennessee Titans.
