SAINTS will play Sunderland at St Mary’s on Saturday as planned, the club has confirmed.
Despite this week’s conflagration in the industrial park across the stadium, Russell Martin’s team will face the Black Cats at 3pm.
Southampton’s match against Preston North End on Wednesday was postponed only hours before kickoff.
A Saints statement read: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming you back to St Mary’s on Saturday for our game against Sunderland.”
“We’ve been working really hard with the local authorities and emergency services to make sure the game can go ahead, however, you will notice some small changes around the stadium as a result of the fire in the nearby industrial units.
“Due to its close proximity to the site of the fire, the family zone will be closed, but you’re welcome to join in the fun of the activations in the Kingsland area.
“Whilst the stadium store remains open, offering a huge 50% sale on this season’s kit and training wear, there will be some areas in the South Car Park that will be closed, so please refer to signage in that area to keep you safe and away from any impacted areas.
“While the stadium store remains open, with a fantastic 50% off this season’s clothing and training wear, some areas in the South Car Park will be closed, so please follow the signage in that area to stay safe and away from any damaged areas.
“We’ve also been informed that typical matchday road closures will be in place, so please allow extra time to arrive and access the stadium safely.
“We’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to prepare the stadium for tomorrow, as well as all of our fans who have shown their support. “See you tomorrow!”
