Omar Khan, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager, has kept himself busy throughout another thrilling and hectic summer. After signing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, linebacker Patrick Queen, punter Cameron Johnston, and safety DeShon Elliott early in free agency, Khan went into overdrive in the last two days.
Khan dealt third-year quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, then acquired fourth-year quarterback Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears on Saturday evening in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick.
Khan’s aggression and offseason passion for the Steelers have prompted some key players and coaches to react on social media.
Cameron Heyward, the team captain and defensive lineman, uploaded a video applauding Khan when it was announced that Fields had been acquired via trade.
Heyward was not the only member of the Steelers organization to tweet his enthusiasm and support for the general manager following the Fields deal.
New wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni has been quite active on Twitter/X so far this offseason, and that continued on Saturday.
Azzanni had a good play on the Joker on the serious Batman side. The Joker always has tricks up his sleeve, and this appears to be a reference to Khan, who pulled off another surprise move as he continues to try to correct some past mistakes before taking office in 2022, which included the quarters room. .
Wilson even took to Twitter/X to welcome Fields to the Steelers, posting a photo of the two of them after a game shaking hands.
“Let’s go @justnfields!! The QB room is about to be (fire emoji),” Wilson wrote.
Fields, who attended Ohio State before beginning his NFL career in Chicago, discussed how he wanted to emulate Wilson’s style of play. Fields has the opportunity to develop and learn alongside Wilson in the Steel City under future Hall of Fame head coach Mike Tomlin, which is the most secure situation he has been in since ‘university.
Even linebackers coach Aaron Curry praised the move, tweeting a photo of Tomlin and Khan smiling during a press conference.
The Steelers have had quite the offseason thus far.
We’ll see whether any additional players or coaches use social media in the coming days.
