The Chicago State transfer guard has committed to the Providence Friars.

A source told On3 that former Chicago State player Wesley Cardet Jr. has committed to Kim English and Providence.

This season, the 6-foot-6 junior from Tallahassee averaged 18.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.

Cardet is a former four-star recruit for the 2021 class who started his career at Samford.

Wesley Cardet Jr. commits to Providence; transfer portal background information.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The compliance office at a school handles the portal entry process. When a player delivers formal notice of intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name into the database, and everything begins. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request, which cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name is in the portal, other colleges can approach them. Players can alter their minds at any time and exit the gateway. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer respected. In other words, if a player enters the gateway and decides to stay, the school is no longer required to grant a scholarship.

The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such asynchronous contact info, whether the player was on scholarship and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.

A player can ask that a “do not contact” tag be placed on the report. In those instances, the players don’t want to be contacted by schools unless they’ve initiated the communication.
