Leeds United has another youthful sensation as the 17-year-old uploads breathtaking footage from this month.

Leeds United’s teenage goalkeeper Rory Mahady shone as the Whites’ U18s advanced to the FA Youth Cup final earlier this month, helping the team to a 4-3 victory over Millwall at Elland Road.

The current focus is on how the senior team performs in the automatic promotion competition, but there is some very positive progress being made with the U18s.

This season, they’ve had a successful run in the FA Youth Cup, reaching the final for the first time since 1997, when Paul Robinson, Jonathan Woodgate, Harry Kewell, and Alan Smith all played.

In a game where the two sides put out a seven-goal thriller, you wouldn’t have thought that Leeds’ goalkeeper Rory Mahady would have had a game to remember.

However, the young Scottish goalkeeper made a number of superb saves to help the Whites advance to the final against Manchester City.

Not only did he deny Jack Howland’s bottom-corner-bound effort at 1-0 to keep Leeds within one goal of the Lions in the first half, but he also made several incredible saves after the break.

Elidon O’Boyle forced a smart save low to his right at 2-1, and then at 4-3 when Leeds were holding on in the 97th minute as Joshua Stevenson leathered a left-footed drive goal-bound, which Mahady strongly parried away before a skied rebound from the same Millwall youngster sparked a wild celebration from the Leeds 17-year-old.

Since then, the young ‘keeper has shared a highlight reel of his best bits in the game on social media, producing an impressive reel:

Not only are his strong saves worthy of praise, but footage also underlines his requirements in possession too, playing high out of his area to build up possession for Leeds.

Line-breaking passes and the confidence to send quick, long passes into the channels is something that definitely stands the ‘keeper in good stead for the future.

Time will tell whether this materialises in a regular place like Illan Meslier, or he has to move elsewhere to prove his talents like Elia Caprile – but he’s doing his chances no harm with performances like that.
