Miami guard Bensley Joseph will move to Providence.
Kim English signs Miami transfer guard Bensley Joseph.
Bensley Joseph, a Miami junior, will transfer to the New England region to play for the Providence Friars, 247Sports learned.
Joseph, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard from Arlington, Massachusetts, made his selection after touring Providence’s campus this week.
This past season, Joseph appeared in 32 games for the Hurricanes, averaging 9.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game on 36.4 percent shooting from three.
With his commitment, he will join fellow three-star freshman Ryan Mela as newcomers to Kim English’s team this summer. Furthermore, four-star junior big man Erhunmwunse Oswin is expected to class up and join the club this offseason.
Joseph will have one season of eligibility remaining whenever he comes on college.
The transfer site launched on March 18th and will be open until Wednesday, May 1st.
A player can request a transfer by submitting paperwork to their present school at any time within that window, and the paperwork must be submitted to the NCAA Portal database within 48 hours of receipt.
Before the window opens on March 18th and after the window closes on May 1st, players who have earned enough credits to graduate can access the portal at any time as a “Grad Transfer”.
Simultaneously, with any coaching change – whether a head coach is sacked or takes another position – players on that team are allowed a 30-day window in which to enter the portal that is not limited to the March 18th-May 1st period.
Once a player has officially entered the transfer portal, other schools can approach him and begin the recruiting process.
This offseason also brings a new rule that will have a significant impact on the transfer market.
In recent years, players were allowed a one-time transfer waiver, and if they transferred again, the NCAA required a waiver to be instantly eligible.
Transfers this spring are expected to be instantly eligible for the 2024-25 season, according to a new NCAA directive.
