Justin Fields will wear the No. 2 jersey in Pittsburgh, while Russell Wilson will wear No. 3.
Justin Fields, the Steelers quarterback, has a new number.
Fields, who wore No. 1 for the Bears, Ohio State, and in high school, will wear No. 2 in Pittsburgh, the Steelers said Wednesday.
The Steelers dislike issuing the No. 1 jersey because it represents that no one player is more important than the team. When clubs are short on available numbers during training camp and the preseason, players are occasionally assigned No. 1, but former kicker Gary Anderson is the only Steeler to wear No. 1 during the regular season since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
Russell Wilson will, as expected, wear the same No. 3 jersey he wore in Denver and Seattle.
