A large fire broke out near Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
A fire broke out in a scrap yard near Sunderland’s football stadium.
The fire began at Ward Bros (Steel) Ltd just after 12:00, and plumes of smoke several feet high can be seen drifting beyond the Stadium of Light.
Tyne and Wear Fire Service reported more than 20 firemen were on the site battling the fire.
According to a spokeswoman, a building was believed to be on fire, and the flames were not likely to ignite any harmful materials.
