The Sydney Kings are pleased to announce that they have activated Makuach Maluach’s second-year option, which means he will stay with the team in NBL25.
The NSW junior, who averaged 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.4 assists in his first season with the Hoops Capital club, is the fifth player signed by Brian Goorjian for the 2024-25 season, joining Shaun Bruce, Kouat Noi, Alex Toohey, and Klairus Amir.
Maluach, who grew up in Armidale before attending Newington College in Sydney, is delighted to spend more time in the harbor city.
“I am very excited to be returning to the Kings,” said Maluach, who will play for Darwin in the NBL1 North campaign this off-season.
“I believe we are building something special for the upcoming season, so I can’t wait to compete and try and bring another championship to Sydney.”
Maluach is excited to take his game to the next level under coach Goorjian in his second season back ‘home’.
“One thing I took away from last season is that you need to approach every experience with a growth mindset and use that to help you be a better teammate and person,” said the former member of the New Mexico Lobos.
“Looking ahead, I’m excited to play for Coach Goorjian.
“He has accomplished so much in the sport, and I believe he can help me get to where I want to go.
“With his guidance and leadership, I think it will elevate my game.”
Kings CEO Chris Pongrass is overjoyed to have another local NSW player returning to the Kings next season.
“Makuach showed great promise in his short stints last season – it was an easy decision for us to want to bring him back for another year,” Pongrass told the media.
“There is a lot of potential in his game and he possesses a number of intangibles, particularly on the defensive end, that will be key for us to unlock this year” .
