Providence basketball received some good news on Sunday when highly ranked small forward Jamier Jones announced his commitment to the team.
The 6-foot-6 talent from Oak Ridge (Fla.) picked the Big East over Kansas, Ohio State, LSU, South Carolina, and Houston.
Why Providence?
While the current trend is to focus on the financial opportunities available in the NIL field, Jones’ explanation was consistent with more traditional recruiting stories.
“The dedication of coach English and the coaching staff. I wouldn’t trust any other coaching staff to lead me to where I want to go, which is the NBA.
Everything those gentlemen have told me sounds amazing, and I’m just ready to work hard and do whatever it takes to achieve my objective!” It’s a significant recruiting victory for head coach Kim English and the club, which was left out of the 2024 NCAA Tournament and is rebuilding a roster that lost Big East Player of the Year Devin Carter, who declared for the 2024 NBA draft.
And the Friars might receive more good news at the end of the month. Jaylen Harrell, a four-star recruit and Gatorade Player of the Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts, set to announce his decision on May 27 — from a list that includes Providence.
