Former UConn guard Corey Floyd Jr. announced on social media Sunday that he is transferring to Big East foe Providence. Floyd’s move marks the first intraconference transfer this offseason.
Floyd, a 6-foot-4 guard from New Jersey, submitted his name to the NCAA transfer portal shortly after the Huskies’ season ended. Floyd was a top-100 recruit for the Class of 2021.
He was originally a Class of 2022 recruit, however he graduated early from Roselle Catholic High and enrolled at UConn in the fall of 2021. Floyd initially selected UConn over offers from Auburn, Florida, Providence, and Villanova, among others.
The guard didn’t see any playing time this past season.
Floyd is known for his slashing and ability to shoot. He works best as the second guard on the floor.
His father, Corey Floyd Sr., played two seasons with the Friars.
UConn played Providence just once last season, a 57-53 loss at the XL Center. The second game was canceled due to COVID-19 and was never rescheduled. Both teams will play twice this upcoming season.
