Head Coach Kim English adds Anton Bonke to the 2023-24 roster.
Providence, Rhode Island – Providence College Head Coach Kim English announced today (January 15) that student-athlete Anton Bonke (Port Vila, Vanuatu) has signed an athletic assistance agreement to join the college. Bonke is transferring to Providence from Eastern Arizona College. Bonke will attend Providence College for the spring semester of 2024 and will participate in team practices. He will not be able to compete in games until the 2024-25 academic year owing to NCAA midyear enrollment transfer restrictions in basketball.
“We’re thrilled that Anton is joining our program,” English added. “We believe Anton has the potential to be a valuable player for our club. He is extremely large and strong, which is needed in the BIG EAST. It would be beneficial to have him practicing with the team through the remainder of the 2023-24 season.”
Bonke, a 7-foot-2-inch center, has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Bonke played in 17 games this season at Eastern Arizona College. He helped the team post a 13-4 mark. He started 16 of the 17 games he played and averaged 18.3 minutes per game. Bonke averaged 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for Eastern Arizona. He shot 58.5 percent (72-123) from the field. Bonke had a season-high 23 points on 11-18 shooting versus the College of Southern Nevada on November 9. He scored 10 points or more in nine of the team’s 17 games. Bonke recorded a season-high 11 rebounds twice this season versus the College of Southern Nevada on November 9 and at Utah State Eastern on November 20.
