Georgia Predicted to Lose Two Games on the 2024 Football Schedule due to..

The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to be the nation’s top college football team once again. Because of head coach Kirby Smart’s ability to recruit some of the country’s best players and create one of the sport’s best lineups. Now in his eighth season as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, ESPN’s Football Power Index predicts his worst season since the COVID-shortened season in 2020, based on wins and loses estimates.

The Football Power Index is a power ranking that compares each team’s strength to the average FBS squad. Teams are ranked based on offense, defense, and special teams, with values reflecting points per game. ESPN then utilizes the Power Index measure to estimate a variety of outcomes for a college football program, including wins and losses.

The FPI model predicts Georgia to win 10.3 games and lose 2.1 this fall. Two losses on Georgia’s 2024 schedule would be manageable. Assuming those two defeats come against two of the three top-ten road opponents they face this season (Alabama, Texas, and Ole Miss), they are very likely to enter the college football playoffs.

It’s also worth noting that the FPI model doesn’t project any football team with 11 wins, therefore the FPI model expects everyone in the sport to have at least two losses, or nearing two losses. Additionally, the model gives Georgia a 79.1% chance to make the playoff, a 31.6% chance of making the national title and a 21% chance of winning that title.
