Kyle Larson misses a $20,000 payday as Corey Day wins the Lake Ozark High Limit event.
Kyle Larson recently lost out on a $20,000 reward in a high limit race. The race at Lake Ozark Speedway on Wednesday was the sixth round of this season’s Midweek Money Series, and Corey Day won.
While Kyle Larson finished sixth, Day, who started the race in 15th place, led the final 22 of 35 laps before crossing the finish line by 2.577 seconds. This was the 18-year-old’s fifth win of the season, and he is still in the running for this year’s High Limit Racing title after competing in 60 events.
After the race at Lake Ozark, Corey Day jumped to 3rd place in the Midweek Money Series with 358 points, 43 to the top of the table. As for his place in the High Limit Series championship, Day is currently 4th with 1434 points, 241 to the top.Days before his win at Lake Ozark in the High Limit Midweek series, Corey Day also won the Super Dirt Cup Finale at Skagit Speedway. While his recent High Limit win earned him $20,000 in prize money, his win from a few days ago earned him nearly quadruple that moment as he walked away with $79,600.

Corey Day’s breakthrough in the dirt racing scene this year has earned him acclaim from those who have come before him. Kyle Larson, for example, was full of praise for the young California racer following his spectacular win at Riverside International Speedway in April.
The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion went on to claim that the young driver reminded him of his own younger self (per Sportsnaut):
“He’s basically me. He’s better than I am, or I was obviously at that age. He is in a lot better rides than I was at that age. His race craft, his maturity on the track, off the track, like all that, he’s really, really good. He can run harder than anybody on the race track and be in control. So, he’s definitely the next kid coming up that probably will make it,” Kyle Larson said.
It’ll thus be interesting to see how Corey Day’s 2024 season in the High Limit Racing Series as well as his other races turn out and if he can attract some interest from NASCAR. Day has already proven his mettle in the stock car as he won at Hickory Motor Speedway in April behind the wheel of the #88 JR Motorsports Late Model. This could lead to him getting some calls from JRM’s Xfinity Series programs, which could potentially lead to a full-time NASCAR ride in future.
