BREAKING: Providence Frias Devin Carter announces his retirement following shoulder surgery.

(KTXL) — The Sacramento Kings revealed on Thursday that Devin Carter, their 2024 first-round draft pick, had shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. The 22-year-old will begin rehabilitation and is anticipated to fully recover, according to the team. Carter was already ruled out of summer league activity, including the California Classic, due to an injury sustained during a pre-draft practice.

The 6-foot 2-inch guard, who was born in Miami, earned Big East Player of the Year honors after averaging 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game for the Providence Friars.

Although fans will have to wait to see the rookie debut, they’ll see a team that now includes six-time all-star DeMar DeRozan, who was recently acquired in a sign-and-trade deal.
