(NEXSTAR) – Jaydin Blackwell, a para track and field world champion, says he wants to shatter the 100-meter world record in Paris this summer.
The 20-year-old from Oak Park, Michigan, hopes to win gold medals in both the 100 and 400 metres. It will be his first time competing at the Paralympics.
Blackwell had cerebral palsy when he was six years old. The illness affects the muscles in his legs.
“It’s been a fascinating trip,” Blackwell explained. “since para track athletes don’t get the credit they deserve since they aim to be the greatest, work just as hard, and train just as hard as everyone else.”

Blackwell earned two gold medals at the 2023 Para World Championships. He has the world record in the men’s T38 400-meter with a timing of 48.49.
