Quentin Grimes says he has fully healed from previous injuries and is looking forward to make an impact for the Dallas Mavericks this season.
The Dallas Mavericks’ offseason transactions included Klay Thompson leaving the Golden State Warriors in a six-team sign-and-trade to join forces with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. However, the squad has gained some fascinating new members, like Quentin Grimes and Naji Mashall.
“I feel like it’s our duty to go out there and play as hard as we can and try to go back to where [the Mavericks] were last year, and ideally win a championship,” Grimes said. “When we play with Luka, he makes everyone’s job on the floor much simpler.
“For me as a shooter, just coming in and learning from Klay, one of the finest shooters to ever touch a basketball,” Grimes stated. “Playing alongside Luka will be enjoyable since he attracts so much attention defensively. I’m ready to take open shots, make plays, and do everything it takes to help this team win.
Grimes missed 29 of the Detroit Pistons’ final 35 games last season due to a knee injury after being moved midseason to the New York Knicks. He is unconcerned and has resumed his workouts, with the goal of improving his conditioning for the coming season.
“I’ve been 100 percent,” Grimes stated. “I’ve been feeling wonderful after working out every day. I’m just trying to be in peak form for our trip to Vegas in a few days to work out with the boys.”
Grimes, a career 37.1% perimeter shooter, is eager to start over with the Mavericks and make a difference. When the Mavericks were looking to recruit talent following their NBA Finals run, they prioritised more dependable perimeter shooters. His greatest season with the Knicks was in 2022-23, when he averaged 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.
“I believe every club in the NBA would like to have more shooting,” Mavericks vice president of basketball operations Michael Finley stated. “That’s how the game is going, and it was extremely clear during our playoff runs, particularly in the games we lost, not just in the Finals. If we shot more, we’d have a higher chance of winning those games. In the finals,I believe we observed that taking a shot here or there results in a different series. I know these three men can take and make those huge shots.
Grimes’ effect is further enhanced by his willingness to protect difficult assignments and his ability to perform when necessary. He takes delight in making hustle plays and has emerged as an interesting prospect for the Knicks, despite the fact that the organisation was hesitant to move him in past conversations.
“That was my calling card coming in from Houston,” Grimes explained. “For coach Sampson, if you can’t play defence, you won’t be on the court. If you can’t play defence, scratch, and compete for every 50-50 ball, you won’t be on the floor with [Tom Thibodeau]. That’s what I’ve tried to accomplish since the beginning, and I’ll continue to do so until I can no longer play this game.”
It is unclear how substantial Grimes’ involvement will be in the forthcoming season. Regardless, it is apparent that he will be physically prepared to begin training camp.
