The Cowboys owner and general manager said discussions continue with the agents of CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.
OXNARD, Calif. — The Cowboys’ front office and the agents of CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott are still talking.
That’s the only real update from team owner and general manager Jerry Jones on Friday.
“They’re just progressing, in my mind,” Jones said of talks with Lamb.
Asked about discussions with Prescott’s agent, “Well I would say we’re talking. I would not have a legitimate progress point there at all and I really don’t have one for Lamb either. And it’s not negative. I’m just not thinking that it will do any good to talk about progress.”
Lamb’s contract holdout reached its tenth day on Friday.
He’s being fined $50,000 per day for missing practice and team meetings. Lamb, however, is having communication with his teammates. He contacted Prescott on his birthday July 29.
“That led to some talks,” Prescott said. “I know he shared with me he’s wanting to get back, ready to get back, hoping this thing gets done for him. I know I am as well. Hopefully, we’ll get him back sooner than later. But I know he’s grinding and working and ready to get back to work.”
Outside of Lamb and Prescott, the Cowboys also have a major contract extension to do with edge rusher Micah Parsons.
He’s got two years left on his deal but next year he’ll be looking for a contract extension. The Cowboys can execute the franchise tag for two years once Parsons’ rookie contract expires.
But given what’s occurred with other Cowboys’ players, Zack Martin and Ezekiel Elliott, who held out only to get raises, it’s doubtful Parsons will get tagged.
“He’s front and center and his potential future relative to contract impacts our thinking today about contracts,” said Jones, who indicated Parsons isn’t on the back burner because of talks with Lamb and Prescott. “So in that sense, he’s in the view, the mirror.”
