Louisville football loses WR Jadon Thompson to season-ending injury. Here’s what to know
No. 17 Louisville football will be without wide receiver Jadon Thompson for the rest of the season, head coach Jeff Brohm announced Monday morning.
The second-year U of L head coach said Thompson is out with a knee injury, putting U of L down another receiver against Notre Dame. Dakadrien Saunders, who plays on special teams, will also be out for the season with a knee injury.
“Those things happen,” Brohm said, “and that’s why you’ve got to have depth and other guys have to practice every week like they’re going to be on the field every play. If they are, great. If they’re not, they need to keep practicing every day like their number’s called because it will be called throughout the course of the year. Definitely this game will have some new pieces.”
Thompson became the Cardinals’ starter after Caullin Lacy, who was projected to be one of the starting receivers, broke his collarbone during fall camp. During the first three games of the season, Thompson totaled 88 yards and two touchdowns on six catches and got hurt late in the Cardinals’ 31-19 win over Georgia Tech. Lacy began practicing with the team last week and will be a gametime decision.
Louisville may be without two more starters in running back Maurice Turner, who was missing from the ACC opener with a high ankle injury, and cornerback Quincy Riley. One of the key defensive returners, the redshirt senior’s injury was undisclosed, but he was seen wearing a boot on his right foot on Monday morning. Brohm said he’s “not optimistic” about Turner’s return.
