Done Deal: One Time MVP Winner Florida State lands commitment from Nebraska transfer edge James Williams

Florida State lands commitment from Nebraska transfer edge James Williams

Florida State has landed another Nebraska defender through the transfer portal.

After getting linebacker Stefon Thompson to pledge over the weekend, the Seminoles landed edge James Williams on Tuesday.

Williams just left Tallahassee earlier in the day and said that he was down to two schools. Apparently the connection with Williams to FSU’s new defensive coordinator Tony Whiteand defensive line coach Terrance Knightonwas too strong for him to ignore after playing for them for two years at Nebraska.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder played in just four games for the Cornhuskers in 2023 and logged four tackles and two sacks. Speaking of sacks, Williams logged five in 2024 along with 14 tackles and six tackles for loss, which earned him the name “Sack Man” at Nebraska.

Per the 247Sports transfer rankings, Williams is the No. 20 overall prospect and the No. 4 edge. He has two years of eligibility left.

After missing out on Jimari Butler, this was a huge get for Florida State as they look to turn things around defensively in 2025.
