Former Saints’ QB Teddy Bridgewater wins state football championship in first season as head coach
It didn’t take Teddy Bridgewater long.
Bridgewater, who spent two of his 10 NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints, won a state championship in his first season as a high school head coach.
Bridgewater’s Miami Northwestern team rolled to a 41-0 victory over Raines High School Saturday night for the Class 3A state title in Florida.
Miami Northwestern, which is where Bridgewater played high school ball before going on to star at the University of Louisville, finished 12-2 this season. It was the school’s first state title since 2019. They dominated the postseason, outscoring their opponents 262-12.
Bridgewater spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Saints and captured the hearts of Saints’ fans in his second season when he took over for an injured Drew Brees and went 5-0 as the starter.
The Saints were one of six teams Bridgewater played for. He was first drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 and played three seasons there before coming to New Orleans. After his two seasons with the Saints, he played one season each in Carolina, Denver, Miami and Detroit.
He retired after last season and was named head coach at his high school alma mater in February.
It was the eighth state championship for Miami Northwestern.
