They made history this year, win or lose, and I’ll keep rooting for them. Next year will be another “Go Lions!” I know my pops is smiling down from heaven, proud of his favorite team for finally breaking records. I’m sorry they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, pops, but look at everything they accomplished. It will always be *Go Lions!*

This year, the Detroit Lions made history—win or lose. They’ve achieved something many fans, including myself, thought might never come to fruition: a team that showed resilience, heart, and a true commitment to the game. They have not only broken records, but they’ve shifted the narrative about who they are as a franchise. It’s been a journey filled with highs and lows, but through it all, I’ve been proud to support them. And no matter the outcome this season, I will continue to root for them. Next year, it will still be *Go Lions!* because this team has set a foundation that promises even better things to come.

As a fan, there’s a deep connection to a team that transcends just the wins and losses. It’s about the memories, the ups and downs, and the shared belief in something greater. I know my pops would be just as proud as I am, looking down from heaven with a smile on his face, knowing that his favorite team, the Detroit Lions, finally made history. I can almost hear him now, grinning and nodding in approval of how far they’ve come.

For years, the Lions have struggled to be recognized as a legitimate contender in the NFL. The franchise, at times, seemed to be stuck in a cycle of mediocrity, unable to break through the barriers that had been set for them. But this year, things were different. There was a palpable energy around the team. The coaching staff, led by head coach Dan Campbell, instilled a new sense of belief in the players and the fanbase. It wasn’t just about trying to win games, it was about building a culture of grit, determination, and perseverance.

The Lions began the season showing that they were no longer just another team that would be written off before the season even started. They fought hard in every game, proving they were capable of taking on the best of the league and standing tall. With each victory, the city of Detroit grew more excited, and the fanbase began to believe that this could be the year they broke through. The Lions made a statement not just with their play on the field, but with their relentless pursuit of excellence, proving that they were here to stay and that they wouldn’t just be satisfied with being “okay.” They wanted to be great.

It’s heartbreaking, however, that despite all their success, they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl. For any fan of a team, this is always the ultimate goal, the dream that seems to define the entire season. But in a way, the Lions had already accomplished something just as monumental—if not more. They defied the odds, broke records, and showed the world that they could be something special. In a league where franchises often experience years of failure, the Lions finally demonstrated that they had the talent, the heart, and the drive to make a deep playoff push. That alone is something worth celebrating.

While I’m sure my pops would have loved to see the Lions make it to the Super Bowl, I know deep down he’d be just as proud of what they did accomplish. It’s not just about the championships, but about the journey. And the Lions’ journey this season was one of growth, resilience, and pride. They proved they could play with the best teams in the league, and they proved they were no longer the underdogs. This was a team that refused to be overlooked. They fought for every inch, and in doing so, they showed a nation of fans what Detroit football is all about: toughness, heart, and never backing down.

When I think about my pops and how much he loved the Lions, I know he’d be in complete awe of the team’s accomplishments this year. He was a lifelong fan, and to see his favorite team break records, play with intensity, and finally prove they could compete at the highest level would have brought him so much joy. I know he’s looking down from heaven, smiling proudly at what the Lions have done, even though they didn’t make it to the ultimate game. I like to think he’s up there, shaking his head and saying, “They’re finally doing it,” with a smile that only a true fan could understand.

It’s moments like this that make being a fan so special. For so long, we’ve waited for the Lions to break through, to show that they are more than just the punchline of NFL jokes. We’ve seen flashes of brilliance over the years, but nothing quite like this season. And while it’s disappointing they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, there’s still so much to be proud of. Every win this year felt like a victory not just for the team, but for every fan who’s been there through thick and thin. The Lions gave us something to believe in again.

I can’t help but feel optimistic about next year. The foundation has been laid, and this team has shown they are ready to take the next step. They’ve already proven they can hang with the top teams in the league. The future looks bright, and I know that my pops would be just as excited as I am about the direction they’re headed. He’d be telling me, “Next year’s our year,” and I’d believe it without hesitation. There’s a feeling that this is just the beginning for the Lions. They have a lot of young talent, great coaching, and a fanbase that is more than ready to support them every step of the way.

In life, we all go through struggles and challenges. Some years are tougher than others, and it can feel like we’re not making any progress. But when we finally break through and reach a new level, we realize how far we’ve come. That’s exactly what the Lions have done this year. Even though they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, they’ve accomplished something far more important: they’ve proven to themselves and the world that they belong. And that’s a huge victory in itself.

So, to my pops in heaven: I’m sorry they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, but look at everything they’ve done. I know you’re smiling, and I know you’re just as proud as I am. It’s been a season of highs and lows, but one thing will always remain constant: *Go Lions!* Through every win, every loss, every up and down, I’ll always be here, cheering them on. And next year? It’s going to be even better. I know it. Always *Go Lions!*
