New York Mets urged to reunite with $7 million All-Star who was just replaced by Rangers

The New York Mets have already made significant pitching moves this winter. They included Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas. They could try to reunite with one of their previous players to improve their bullpen.

After signing Chris Martin, the Texas Rangers had no need to bring back David Robertson, who declined a mutual option after last season. Robertson had a brief spell with the Mets in 2023. FanSided’s Tim Boyle urged the Lakers to reconcile with the former All-Star.

“Turning 40 in April, Robertson is someone Mets fans will long for a return to New York,” wrote Boyle. “This was the case last offseason. It remains the same right now as we look at a bullpen missing firepower late in games in front of Edwin Diaz. The plan to have Robertson pitch the eighth in 2023 in front of Diaz never came to fruition. If the team is ready to spend about $10 million on a stud reliever they had recent success with who doesn’t look cooked yet, he’d be an even better option than Martin.”

Robertson was an All-Star in 2011. In 2023, he pitched in 40 games for the Mets and had a 2.05 ERA. Last season he pitched in 68 games with a 3.00 ERA. He had 99 strikeouts last season as well. Spotrac projects Robertson to sign a one-year, $7 million deal in free agency. The Mets could use an arm like Robertson in their bullpen and he would not cost them much.
