Though he didn’t go to Ohio State, LeBron James has become one of the most famous fans of the Buckeyes. The Los Angeles Lakers star didn’t go to college but he grew up in Ohio and adopted Ohio State as his college football team of choice.
While James is one of the greatest basketball players ever, he has a lot of love for football and played in high school. In the past, he flirted with the idea of trying to play football.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day was on Monday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and was asked about a 2022 X post from James where he asked if he still had college eligibility to play a sport other than basketball.
Day is very appreciative of James’ support but made it clear that the basketball star would have to work his way up.
“LeBron is a great supporter,” Day said with a smile. “With that said, he’d have to start with the freshmen in the back of the room and work his way up. He doesn’t get any special treatment.”
James came out and responded by agreeing with the coach’s mindset.
Even at 40, James has proven he’s still among the best athletes in the world. It’s highly unlikely he’d ever step foot on a field as a football player again but it would’ve been fascinating to see what he could do in his athletic prime.
