Lindsey Vonn wants to team up with Mikaela Shiffrin at alpine world championships: ‘Would be one of the coolest things ever’
Alpine Skiing legend Lindsey Vonn said she “would love” to team up with fellow US star Mikaela Shiffrin in the new combined event at the upcoming World Championships in Saalbach, Austria (4-16 February).
“I would love to race with Mikaela, that would be amazing, and I think it would probably be one of the coolest things ever to have both of us competing together on the same team,” the 40-year-old told German wire service dpa.
The new combined event, which will also make its Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026, features two specialists in a team instead of one skier. One skier will compete in a downhill while the other will do a slalom, with the fastest aggregate time determining the winner.
The women’s event in Saalbach is scheduled for Tuesday 11 February. Each nation can enter multiple teams.
Shiffrin (99) and Vonn (82) are the most successful women in World Cup history. Shiffrin holds the record for most slalom wins (62), Vonn has the most downhill victories (43). “It’s 181 World Cup wins between the two of us. I’ve told my coaches that I want to,” Vonn added.
