Georgia Bulldogs News: 5-star drama, Jared Curtis update, new football coaching promotion
Monday was quite the day for Georgia’s two top recruits they are targeting
Georgia football is after two of the best players in the country in the 2026 recruiting class, and both players had major updates to their recruitments on Monday as their commitment dates approach.
On top of that, a UGA coach earned a promotion on Monday as well, but let’s first begin with the important recruiting updates.
Oregon is major competition for Jackson Cantwell
Offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell is the No. 1 overall recruit in the country. Entering this past weekend, Georgia was the team to beat for Cantwell according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong. And with one more visit to Athens on the books for Cantwell ahead of his May 13 commitment date, things were looking really good for Georgia.
But Cantwell had one final visit to Oregon this past weekend, and according to him it sounds like it went very well. There’s no saying how much this visit impacted Georgia’s chances of landing Cantwell, but it doesn’t appear UGA’s lead is as large as most thought it was.
Georgia visiting Jared Curtis two more times
Speaking of Oregon, the Bulldogs are also battling the Ducks for the No. 1 quarterback in the country as well. Jared Curtis has a commitment date of May 5 which is quickly approaching, and these next few days leading into his commitment will be extremely important because neither team is the clear leader yet.
Over the course of these next few days, Oregon will reportedly travel to Curtis’s home to make one final visit. Georgia on the other hand will visit Curtis twice before he commits.
This not only shows how motivated Georgia is to land Curtis, but it is a great reminder of how much closer Georgia is to his family in Tennessee than Oregon is, which is a major selling point for the Bulldogs.
New coaching promotion
Georgia has had a few coaching changes this offseason, and that happened once again on Monday as defensive backs coach Donte Williams was promoted and is now an associate head coach.
It doesn’t appear that this promotion will change any of the work he does on the field for the Bulldogs, but it is a nice reward for a coach who did extremely well in his first year with the program.
