2026 NEW YAMAHA YZ250 LAUNCHED!!

The Yamaha YZ 250 model is the longest running production motorcycle at 50 years. For 2026 Yamaha is offering a 1993 retro look which takes me back to the factory Yamaha days with Jeff Emig.

The 2026 Yamaha YZ250 is a formidable contender in the world of two-stroke motocross motorcycles. Building upon the legacy of its predecessors, this model introduces several enhancements aimed at improving performance, handling, and rider comfort. Let’s delve into the key features that make the 2026 YZ250 a standout choice for motocross enthusiasts.

**Engine Performance**

At the heart of the YZ250 lies a 249cc liquid-cooled, reed-valve inducted two-stroke engine. This powerplant is renowned for its lightweight design and broad, hard-hitting powerband, delivering exhilarating acceleration and top-end performance. The inclusion of Yamaha’s Power Valve System (YPVS) ensures a seamless transition across the powerband, enhancing both low-end torque and high-end power delivery.

Fuel delivery is managed by a 38mm Hitachi Astemo® Keihin PWK38S carburetor, which incorporates a power jet and throttle position sensor. This setup provides precise fuel/air mixing, resulting in crisp throttle response and optimal engine performance across various riding conditions. Additionally, the engine features a close-ratio five-speed transmission with a heavy-duty multiplate clutch, ensuring smooth gear transitions and reliable power delivery.

**Suspension and Handling**

The 2026 YZ250 is equipped with a fully adjustable 48mm KYB® inverted front fork and a fully adjustable KYB® rear shock, both featuring the Speed Sensitive System. These components offer 11.8 inches and 12.4 inches of travel, respectively, providing exceptional bump absorption and precise handling. The front fork now includes a hand-adjustable knob for quick, toolless compression adjustments, allowing riders to fine-tune their suspension settings on the fly. The rear shock boasts reduced-friction Kashima Coat™ internals and separate adjusters for high- and low-speed compression damping, as well as a full lock oil rebound system, enhancing rear wheel control and overall ride comfort.

Complementing the advanced suspension is a lightweight aluminum frame and swingarm, which contribute to the YZ250’s class-leading handling characteristics. The removable aluminum rear subframe, constructed of square-section tubing, further reduces weight and enhances the bike’s agility. Additionally, the bike features lightweight Excel® rims and race-ready Dunlop® Geomax MX33 tires, offering exceptional durability and performance across a wide range of terrains.

**Braking System**

The braking system of the 2026 YZ250 has been meticulously designed to provide exceptional stopping power and feel. The front brake features a 270mm hydraulic disc rotor paired with a rigid caliper, delivering precise braking performance. The rear brake has been upgraded with a 240mm disc and a newly designed caliper, offering the same pad contact area and braking performance as the previous model while saving nearly 100 grams in weight. This combination results in a powerful and responsive braking system that instills confidence in riders during aggressive maneuvers.

**Ergonomics and Rider Comfort**

Yamaha has prioritized rider comfort and control in the design of the YZ250. The bike features a flatter seat, narrow fuel tank, and smoothly integrated body panels, allowing for greater freedom of movement and enabling riders to easily shift their body weight for increased control. The slim shroud width further contributes to the bike’s agile handling characteristics. Additionally, the YZ250 is equipped with wide foot pegs, a gripper seat, and an adjustable clutch lever with a works-style cable adjuster, ensuring a comfortable and customizable riding experience.

**Design and Aesthetics**

The 2026 YZ250 boasts aggressive, race-inspired styling that reflects its extensive two-stroke racing pedigree. The sharp embedded graphics, aggressive bodywork, and blacked-out radiator shrouds and number plates give the bike a bold and dynamic appearance. The inclusion of fork guards, rear brake disc and caliper protectors, and wide foot pegs not only enhance the bike’s aesthetics but also contribute to its durability and functionality.
