Sofia Goggia and Lindsey Vonn trail in second downhill training at Alpine Skiing Worlds as Miriam Puchner records fastest time

The two superstars were well off the pace on Wednesday, while American Breezy Johnson posted the second-quickest time again.
Austria’s Mirjam Puchner was the fastest woman in the second downhill training run on Wednesday (5 February) at the World Alpine Skiing Championships in Saalbach, Austria. Olympic champions Sofia Goggia and Lindsey Vonn trailed behind, finishing 11th (+1.43) and 29th (+3.13), respectively.

“In itself, the course isn’t that difficult, but it’s very challenging to interpret correctly,” Goggia told reporters after her run.

“Yesterday, I had a good run (5th quickest time), but today I didn’t deliver an excellent performance. I still have a lot to study and learn from the analysis.

“In general, the stronger gliders, the ones who are better at letting the skis run on the flats, have an advantage over those who rely more on pure technical skills. Sometimes I am a glider. I may not be as excellent at it as some other girls, but I do know how to maintain high speed. So, we’ll see. There’s a lot of

to do and a lot to study for Saturday’s race, so we have plenty of time to prepare as best as possible.”

Asked if the hard landings after the jumps might affect her friend Vonn, Goggia replied: “No, I’m not surprised. If she’s doing it, it means she knows she can.”
