South Carolina women’s basketball: It’s release day Dawn Staley’s book “Uncommon Favor”
Dawn Staley’s book “Uncommon Favor” is available in bookstores today. The book “shares powerful and inspiring stories that have shaped her journey on and off the court.”
The book is subtitled, “Basketball, North Philly, my mother, and the lessons I learned from all three.” Staley first announced the book in February.
The phrase “uncommon favor” became linked with South Carolina’s undefeated 2024 national championship team when Staley spoke about her faith following the championship game.
In a social media post on Tuesday morning, Staley said radio host Charlamagne tha God was responsible for convincing her to write the book.
“I’ve had a lot of people ask me about writing a book, and I put it off,” Staley said. “But Charlamagne tha God was persistent, insistent.”
That provided a glimpse into Staley’s personal life, something the book promises to expand on in addition to her well-documented on-court success.
According to the publishers, “‘Uncommon Favor’ reveals the journey that led to Staley’s success, including the challenges she faced. From dealing with sexism on the court to feeling isolated in new environments, Staley honed her skills and learned valuable life lessons about mental fortitude and maturity that have grounded her throughout her career.”
To coincide with the release of the book, Staley will make three promotional appearances. On May 22, she has a book signing at Barnes & Noble 5th Avenue in New York. The next day, Staley will participate in a moderated event at Enon Tabernacle in Philadelphia.
Next week, Staley will host a sold-out book signing at the R2i2 Conference Center in Columbia
“Uncommon Favor” is published by Simon & Schuster. It is available directly from the publisher or at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Target, and Walmart.
“Uncommon Favor” is also available as an audiobook, read by Staley herself.
