After giving the Longhorns his pledge on New Years Day, 2025 Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek linebacker Anthony Williams elected to back off his commitment on Thursday night.
“First off, I would like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play this game and have the chance to play at the next level,” Williams said in a statement. “The University of Texas has been nothing but wonderful to me, and I cannot thank them enough; nonetheless, I have decided to withdraw from The University of Texas. My recruitment is officially reopened.”
Williams had just made plans to visit TCU and Florida.
In January, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound three-star selected Texas over 25+ offers from Notre Dame, Oregon, Nebraska, Auburn, TCU, Houston, and others.
Williams was ranked as the No. 501 overall prospect, the No. 51 linebacker, and the No. 81 player in Texas by the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary system that combines ratings and rankings from all four leading recruiting media services.
Williams is ranked by On3 as the No. 41 linebacker and the No. 74 prospect in Texas.
With Williams’ decommitment, the Longhorns now have the No. 11 class in the On3 Recruiting Rankings. The Longhorns are also ranked fifth in the Southeastern Conference in the same rankings.
Texas currently has pledges in its 2025 class from Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove EDGE Lance Jackson, Saraland (Ala.) QB K.J. Lacey, Calhoun (Ga.) TE Emaree Winston, and Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie DL Brandon Brown.
