Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine established a new women’s high jump world record of 2.10 metres on her first try in the World Athletics Diamond League event in Paris, France on Sunday.

Stefka Kostadinova of Bulgaria held the previous record of 2.09 metres for an astonishing 37 years, having established it in Rome, Italy, in 1987.

“Coming into this competition, I felt like I could jump 2.07 metres or maybe 2.10 metres,” Mahuchikh stated after her triumph. “I finally signed Ukraine into the history of international athletics.”Mahuchikh won the bronze medal in the women’s high jump in the pandemic-affected Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.

On the same day, Faith Kipyegon of Kenya broke her own world record in the women’s 1,500-meter event, finishing in 3:49.04 and beating her performance from 2023 in Italy by 0.07 seconds.

“I knew the world record was feasible since I had lately run really fast in Kenya,” Kipyegon explained. “I came here merely to run my race and determine if I was in shape to defend my Olympic championship.”

Men’s pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis of Sweden attempted to test himself in Paris on Sunday. He had one try at 6.25 metres, failing his final result was an even six metres, which was good enough to win the title.

Djamel Sedjati of Algeria won the men’s 800-meter race in 1:41.56, a world-leading time, his personal best, and the third-fastest over the distance in history, trailing only compatriots David Rudisha (1:40.91) and Wilson Kipketer (1:41.11).
