Bayern Munich hold positive negotiations with Mathys Tel.

Bayern Munich is likely to make major decisions over the summer. They seek to reinvigorate the team with a new head coach. With Thomas Tuchel poised to leave at the end of the season, Bayern must provide clarity to younger players about their long-term ambitions. The Bavarian club appears to have taken the first moves toward encouraging Mathys Tel to remain in Munich.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, met with Mathys Tel’s agent and had cordial talks. The record Bundesliga champions see Tel as a key element of their future. Die Roten will not entertain offers for Tel during the summer.

The talk with Freund follows Manchester United’s expressed interest in Tel. The Old Trafford club reportedly made initial contact with Tel’s agents over a summer transfer. However, positive talks with Bayern will undoubtedly put an end to Manchester United’s interest in Tel.

Mathys Tel has been aiming to become a key player for Bayern since joining from Rennes in 2022. He decided not to go on loan last summer. Tel wanted to stay in Munich and learn from world-class players while spending time with them on Sabner Strasse.

The French attacker began the season on fire, scoring key goals for Bayern. During Hinrunde, he served as Tuchel’s super-sub. However, Tel’s impressive cameos in the second half have not resulted in a spot in the starting XI. He has yet to start a Bundesliga match this season.

Tuchel has consistently stated that Tel’s minutes off the bench are excellent at this point in his career. Despite Bayern’s struggles in the final third in recent weeks, Tel was forced to settle for cameo appearances in the second halves of games. The paucity of starts fueled questions about Tel’s long-term future at Bayern.

With Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season, Tel will get a fresh start in the first team. The French forward hopes to play on a regular basis under the new head coach. Tel will seek to finish the season strong and take the next step in his development by competing for a spot in the starting XI next season.

Fabrizio Romano has also suggested that talks about a new contract for Tel may take place, as Bayern are determined to keep the French forward. Tel’s current deal at Die Roten expires in 2027.
