Newcastle are now ninth in the Premier League after losing 4-1 to Arsenal on Saturday night.

Eddie Howe is facing a difficult season, and he is unlikely to repeat his success last season in guiding Newcastle into the Champions League.

Newcastle exceeded expectations last season, and many believe they will do so again this season. And now that they aren’t, they’re questioning Howe’s ability to lead Newcastle to where they want to go.

It is a completely short-sighted viewpoint, which the Newcastle owners do not share. They have no plans to change managers, and Ben Foster believes Howe is the ideal man for the job on Tyneside.

Foster was questioned on Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast if Howe should be under pressure at Newcastle after recent results and if he is the ideal guy to take the team to the next level.

“I think for now he is the guy to do it, he has to be the guy to do it,” he told reporters.

“I believe they overachieved last season; they have some very strong players, and this year they have been extremely unlucky with injuries. And it’s difficult to regain momentum after losing the wind in your sails.

“When you have that momentum and you’re winning games and everyone is fit and you’re nicking games in last minutes it just keeps rolling, but at the minute everything seems to be going against them.”

Eddie Howe is suitable for the role at St James’ Park.
Foster is spot on. Howe has to be the right man right now. This season, there are so many mitigating variables against him that it’s impossible to find fault.

Injuries should not be used as an excuse; nonetheless, they cannot be ignored. It is the primary reason Newcastle are not performing as well as planned.

However, there has been a natural retreat from the highs of previous season. It was never going to be able to reproduce that.

But this is a process, and Howe is unquestionably the ideal man to continue leading us on this path. Outsider criticism is ludicrous, and the vast majority of Newcastle United supporters believe Howe is the ideal man for the job.
