The Atlanta Braves have added depth in the minor leagues. The recent news about Acuña Jr. highlights the importance of having depth in the outfield.
According to the team’s transaction record, the Atlanta Braves just made a minor league depth move by signing free agent Skye Bolt on February 23. Bolt, a major league veteran, was also assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett on the same day.
Atlanta Braves sign outfielder Skye Bolt to a minor league contract.
Bolt, a 30-year-old outfielder, has 81 career MLB games, the majority of which he has played with the Oakland Athletics. During that time, Bolt has a combined slash line of.156/.205/.266 with five home runs, 17 RBI, and seven stolen bases, with 76 of those games coming in the 2021-22 season.
Bolt also made his MLB debut in 2019 with little play, and he was listed as the Athletics’ No. 19 prospect at the time by MLB Pipeline.
An Atlanta native who is a former fourth-round pick from the 2015 MLB Draft out of North Carolina, Bolt last appeared in an MLB game back in 2022 where he played in 42 games as a member of the Oakland Athletics. Across those 42 games, Bolt slashed .198/.259/.330 with four HR, 13 RBI, and five SB.
Bolt played 64 games in Triple-A Nashville in the Milwaukee Brewers organization last season and has had a bit of a comeback in 2023. This included a slash line of.257/.359/.367 with three home runs, 23 RBI, and three stolen bases, as well as 33 walks to 60 strikeouts.
Looking ahead, as previously stated, Bolt was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett in late February and will open the 2024 season with the Stripers. Bolt will most likely be an outfield depth option for the Braves in 2024, with a possible call-up to Atlanta later this season in a bench role.
