On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys lost another vital part of their defence to free agency. Since free agency began last week, the Cowboys have lost several crucial pieces of their core.
Tyron Smith, Tyler Biadasz, and Tony Pollard all left for new teams last week. To free up cap space for the upcoming season, the organisation released Michael Gallup. On defence, they also released Leighton Vander Esch, who was planning to retire due to a neck issue.
Johnathan Hankins is poised to join the Seattle Seahawks.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, defensive end Johnathan Hankins will not return to Dallas for the 2024 season. He is likely to sign with the Seattle Seahawks after a visit with the team on Tuesday.
Micah Parsons sought assistance on the interior DL and at LB.
According to the NFL website’s transcription, star pass rusher Micah Parsons stated earlier this year that adding a linebacker and an interior defensive lineman would demonstrate the Cowboys’ commitment to winning a Super Bowl.
“I said look at every team that was in that final four,” Parsons explained. “Who did they have? Who did Baltimore have? A great linebacking corps, right? Who did San Fran have? Great linebacking corps. K.C. (Nick) Bolton, and they came along. We need to get another bigger linebacker. And I said we need to get a super, 330 nasty interior [lineman].
“I saw the way Chris Jones affected that Super Bowl and I was like, ‘My God.’ And not even Chris Jones. Mike Pennel. I think we’ve got a lot of rushers. I think Osa (Odighizuwa), he can play inside, outside, one of the most versatile DTs. When we lost (Johnathan) Hank(ins), he’s a big dude, but we need to get one of them big old, nasty, pass-rushing, get-going [guys].”
Hankins had three sacks for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023
Hankins recorded three sacks for the Cowboys last season before being placed on injured reserve in December due to a damaged pectoral. Hankins falls ten pounds short of Parsons’ goal, but losing depth on the interior defensive line isn’t what No. 11 needs to get a clear path to the quarterback.
This offseason, Parsons has gone one-for-three in terms of getting what he wanted from the Cowboys. He wanted Pollard re-signed, but the running back left for the Tennessee Titans. The Colts have yet to find a star running back to replace him. Seattle now has one of the top defensive line starters.

The Cowboys did sign linebacker Eric Hendricks, the only outside addition in free agency so far. However, this roster does not appear to be an NFC East contender, let alone one capable of playing in late January.
