The Lions are prioritizing big deal extensions for Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Orlando, Florida. The Detroit Lions have begun contract negotiations that will place Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown among the highest-paid players in the NFL.
“Those are priorities,” head coach Dan Campbell explained. “Those are clearly priorities. I’m not going to delve into it, but there are clearly conversations going on.”
A fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft, St. Brown has gone on to become one of the biggest draft-day steals in franchise history. He broke the team record for catches and yards by a rookie in Year 1, then broke the NFL record for catches by any player in his first two seasons. He was better yet this past season, racking up 119 catches for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to a first-team All-Pro nod.
When asked by an out-of-town reporter what makes St. Brown unique, Campbell did not hesitate.
“What doesn’t make him special?” Campbell spoke over breakfast at the NFL owners’ conference in Orlando, Florida. “Everything he does is what makes him who he is.” His work ethic, desire to be good, determination to succeed, quantity of footage he watches, pre-practice warmup, and post-practice routine. Everything about him revolves around his desire to be the best athlete he can be. Being the best player possible, rather than simply being one. He wants to be the best, and everything he does isn’t just lip service. He really does everything!
