Georgia Bulldogs news: D’Andre Swift and other former Bulldogs ready to be free agents, plus more
When the NFL season starts on March 13, 13 former Georgia Bulldogs will be eligible for free agency. Plus, Georgia men’s basketball loses another game in the SEC, but UGA women’s basketball moves out of last place with a win over Florida.
NFL free agency begins with the official start of the new league year, which is quickly approaching. First, NFL teams will analyze the draft class at the combine this week, but before the draft, the focus will be on replenishing rosters with NFL veterans.
Several former Georgia Bulldogs will be on the open market in 2023, and several of them were significant members of their teams. However, none are expected to be franchise-tagged before the March 5 deadline.
The Detroit Lions moved D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles last summer, before he reached the end of his four-year rookie contract. Running behind Philadelphia’s top offensive line, Swift finally stayed healthy and had a breakout year with 1,029 running yards and five scores on 229 attempts.
Now he’s about to enter the open market for the first time. While the NFL’s running back market is far from hot, Spotrac estimated Swift’s market worth to be $6.7 million per year, a significant increase from his $8.7 million career earnings.

George men’s basketball loses against Auburn.
Georgia men’s basketball played No. 14 Auburn on Saturday, and the Tigers easily won 97-76 thanks to 25 points from San Diego State transfer Chad Baker-Mazara. Noah Thomasson led Georgia with 18 points, followed by Silas Demary Jr. and Russel Tchewa, who all had 16.
Auburn shot 53.8% from three on 26 attempts, while Georgia was only 3/14 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs are 15-12 overall and 5-9 in the SEC, good for eleventh place in the conference.
The Georgia men have only four games left on their schedule, including a rematch with the Tigers to finish the regular season on March 9. The Bulldogs will play again on Tuesday at LSU.
Georgia women’s basketball defeats Florida
Georgia’s women’s basketball team has dropped four straight games before facing the Florida Gators on Sunday. Javyn Nicholson, Georiga’s best scorer this season, ended with a game-high 26 points, and the Bulldogs outrebounded the Gators 60-40 on route to a decisive 76-60 victory.
The Bulldogs’ third win in SEC play this season gave them some breathing room over the last-place Missouri Tigers, who are 2-11. The 13-15 (3-11) Dawgs will face LSU on Thursday at Stegeman in their penultimate regular season matchup.
