The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to transfer standout cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans, with the two-time Super Bowl winner ready to sign a massive new contract.

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to sell standout player L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans, with the two-time Super Bowl winner ready to sign a lucrative new contract.

On Friday night, the Chiefs and Titans reached an agreement on Sneed’s contract. Tennessee will trade a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick for the 27-year-old. Sneed, who was tagged by the Chiefs earlier this season, is set to sign a new contract with Tennessee.

The deal will be finalised once Sneed passes his physical. He is expected to sign a four-year deal which could change the market for defensive backs. Earlier this month, the Chiefs put the non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed. This allowed him to talk to other teams who could negotiate a trade with Kansas City.

The Titans made their move after Sneed didn’t allow any touchdowns in 462 coverage snaps, playing at an All-Pro level throughout the season. In 2023, Sneed had the best year of his career since joining the league as a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to Next Gen Stats, Sneed covered the opponent’s top receiver on at least 65 percent of snaps seven times, a league-leading record. Only once did a receiver catch more than two passes while playing against Sneed. In Week 12, Las Vegas Raiders sensation Davante Adams had five catches for 73 yards on seven attempts.

Sneed is on his way to Tennessee, where he will join veteran cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. At the outset of free agency, Awuzie signed a three-year contract worth £27 million ($36 million), and the duo will start outside with Roger McCreary as the nickel to defend against players like C.J. Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, and Anthony Richardson in the AFC South.
