The Miami Dolphins should be happy with the transaction that sent Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.
Diggs was part of a trade that netted the Texans the star wide receiver, a sixth-round pick in 2024, and a fifth-round pick in 2025. The trade resulted in the Bills receiving a second-round pick in 2025.
The powerful wide receiver may have been labeled the Dolphins’ owner after his performance against this particular team. No matter how hard they tried, they were unable to get past him.
Good news for the Miami Dolphins.
The one plus for Miami with Diggs going to Houston is that they only see him once a year now in comparison to the two or three times they would normally be seeing him when they’d play Buffalo.
The Bills are the current AFC East champions, and the Dolphins are hoping to reclaim the title for the first time since 2008. They were on the verge of clinching the division title until Diggs and the Bills ran Miami over in the final game of the 2023 NFL regular season, extending Buffalo’s winning streak to five games.
Certainly Diggs was an excellent player for the team and performed admirably in the absence of Bills quarterback Josh Allen, so whoever has step in and fill those shoes will undoubtedly have high expectations to continue making the same effect that Diggs made. Presumably, the Bills will have to consider the draft to bring up a promising prospect.
Against Miami, Diggs went 8-1 with 719 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 13.6 yards per catch and 9.2 yards per target in those nine games.
No Excuses, the Dolphins Should Easily win the AFC East Next Season.
Even without Diggs on the roster, the title will most likely be decided between the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills.
Miami has a slight advantage, however. If we look at offseason pick-ups across the AFC East, the Dolphins have added several excellent players to their squad, including Shaq Barrett, Aaron Brewer, Jordyn Brooks, Jordan Poyer, and Jonnu Smith. The Bills have only added Nicholas Morrow and Mitch Trubinsky, and neither will replace Diggs at wide receiver.
Now, is it possible the New York Jets or New England Patriots could come out of the woodwork and shock the football nation? Sure, I’m not discrediting them whatsoever, however, the odds are favoring more for Miami or Buffalo to take the division this upcoming season.
The Dolphins have the top offense in their division, therefore there’s no reason why they can’t easily win the AFC East.
Maybe this deal will inspire the Bills to go out there and be great and continue to dominate, or they will take it as a learning experience and reset. With the majority of Miami’s offense returning from last season, it’s impossible to predict how much damage they’ll cause in the division.
The odds are in Miami’s favor with this transaction; while Buffalo is the +160 favorite to win the division again, the Dolphins are not far behind at +170. It’s time for Miami to reclaim what is theirs.
