GREAT NEWS: Providence’s Friars star player has announced his retirement.

NEW: Providence College’s Provost Resigns.

GoLocal has confirmed that Dr. Sea Reid, Provost of Providence College, has resigned.
The departure is purportedly linked to rising tensions between PC’s leadership and the college’s LGBTQ+ community.

In March, a letter was sent to Providence College’s administrators detailing prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community.

On Monday, the President of PC addressed the college community with the following statement.

Dear faculty and staff members,

I am deeply disappointed to tell you of Dr. Sean Reid’s resignation as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. I reluctantly accepted Sean’s resignation and deeply regret it. He has agreed to assist me throughout the transition phase and will then continue his contribution to the college as a full-time member of the PCSB Finance Department faculty.

Sean was my first hire as president, and he has been a trusted colleague and friend who has dedicated himself to his work since joining the institution in July 2020. He continually displayed a fundamental commitment to intelligent, conscientious leadership by working for our faculty, notably with the Cabinet and the Board of Trustees, to ensure that they are equipped with the resources they need

to excel in their teaching and research.

Sean has been an astute advisor to me and has made my job easier by handling a variety of difficult issues with integrity, fairness, and conviction. I value the important role Sean has played as a member of my leadership team, and I sincerely appreciate his relentless efforts to navigate difficult issues on a college campus.

Please join me in thanking Sean for his esteemed service in his role as provost.

When Reid Was Announced

PC announced the following when Reid visited Providence in 2020.

“Dr. Sean F. Reid, dean of Ithaca College’s School of Business, will become provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Providence College on July 1. He will succeed Dr. Hugh F. Lena III, who is retiring after 16 years as the College’s top academic officer.

Reid is a financial scholar with substantial experience in the military, business sector, and academia.

‘We are delighted to have someone of Sean’s experience and qualities join the senior leadership team at Providence College,’ stated Rev. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P. ’78 & ’82G, president-elect at PC, who made the announcement.

“He has been an integral member of a similar team at Ithaca College and, as dean of their school of business, has played a major role in the growth of a thriving and substantive academic program at that institution. Sean has been a key partner with Ithaca’s development and finance teams, in support not only of his own school, but of that college’s mission and purpose as a whole, and I anticipate that he will do the same here at Providence College. We welcome him and look forward to his arrival as provost.’”
