Green Bay Packers General Manager Reacts to Losing Free Agent to Chicago Bears.

The Green Bay Packers have started releasing players throughout the 2024 offseason. Unfortunately for them, they will only see them twice a year when they begin the next phase of their careers somewhere in the NFC North. The Green Bay Packers and their fans have become accustomed to this. The Green Bay Packers have had to deal with previous players on numerous occasions, whether it’s Brett Favre and Za’Darious Smith playing for the Vikings or Robert Tonyan and Lukas Patrick joining the Chicago Bears.

Aaron Jones recently signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings, much to the displeasure of Green Bay Packers fans. However, that is not the only interdivisional shift the Packers will have to deal with in the 2024-25 season, as a former safety will take snaps for the Chicago Bears next year.

Jonathan Owens Signs With The Chicago Bears

Johnathan Owens was a one-year signee with the Green Bay Packers in 2023, a member of an overall forgettable secondary that the Green Bay Packers are in the process of remodeling. After playing the most snaps out of anyone in the Packers safety room last season, he is on the move.

In 2023, Jonathan Owens took 928 snaps for the Green Bay Packers (3rd most on whole defense). He was signed to a one-year 1 million dollar contract for that season. Totaling 84 total tackles, three pass deflections, and a highlight scoop and score touchdown on Thanksgiving, Owens had an impact in the Green Bay Packers successful season.

Jonathan Owens also had a large hand in the special teams, often featured as the team’s gunner. His presence was palatable in that area, making key tackles multiple times throughout the season to pin teams’ offenses deep.
