Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love’s massive contract extension is expected to make him a top-5 earning NFL quarterback.

One of the major uncertainties for the Green Bay Packers in 2023 was whether Jordan Love would be good enough to be their next franchise quarterback.

As he began his fourth season in the NFL, the Packers felt it was time to find out. They traded Aaron Rodgers one year after signing him to a three-year $150 million contract extension and took a chance on Love.

As he began his fourth season in the NFL, the Packers felt it was time to find out. They traded Aaron Rodgers one year after signing him to a three-year $150 million contract extension and took a chance on Love.

After the season began, everyone focused on Love’s numbers and calendars. When Rodgers took over as starter in 2008, the Packers awarded him an extension in Week 8. In 2023, Week Eight passed with no extension. The Packers were 2–5, and Love wasn’t playing well.

But then something clicked. Love and the Packers finished 7-3, and he had the finest debut season as a starting quarterback in franchise history.

Jordan Love 64.2% 4,159 32 11 96.1
Aaron Rodgers 63.6% 4,038 28 13 93.8
Brett Favre 64.1% 3,227 18 13 85.3

So the question is no longer when Green Bay will grant Love an extension, but rather “how much?”

NFL analyst predicts that the Green Bay Packers will give Jordan Love a massive contract extension.

Love’s 2023 season proved beyond doubt that he is the franchise’s quarterback of the future. Now that he’s answered those questions, the Packers should pay him. That contract extension is undoubtedly coming this year, following the 2024 NFL Draft, and Joel Corry of CBS Sports believes it will be larger than the three-year $150 million agreement that the Packers awarded Rodgers in early 2022.

“Love earned $5 million of the $9 million pay escalator based on his 2023 performance, playtime, and Green Bay’s success. His base salary for 2024 increases from $5.5 million to $10.5 million.

“The Packers and Love’s camp are expected to begin negotiations on a contract extension following the 2024 Draft in late April. It wouldn’t be surprising if Love aimed for more than Rodgers’ final agreement with the Packers in 2022, which paid him $50,271,667 each year ($150.815 million over three years). Last season, Love was more productive than the four-time NFL MVP was in 2022, when the Packers finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs.
