Broncos’ QB Situation is Even More Dire After Latest News
Kansas City Chiefs fans are taking a lot of joy knowing that the Denver Broncos’ quarterback situation hit a new low on Tuesday.
Whenever you hear about the AFC West, it’s hard not to immediately think about the Kansas City Chiefs. After all, the Chiefs have dominated their division rivals for nearly a decade as they’ve won each of the last eight division titles dating back to the 2015 season, averaging 12.1 wins per campaign along the way.
A big reason why the Chiefs have taken ownership of the AFC West is none other than Patrick Mahomes. The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback is significantly better than the rest of the division’s gunslingers, whether you’re talking about the Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert or Las Vegas Raiders’ Aidan O’Connell.
And another thing is more sure: Mahomes at his worst is more promising than whatever’s going in on the Denver Broncos’ QB room at the moment.
Chiefs News: Broncos’ QB Situation in Shambles
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that veteran gunslinger Jarrett Stidham is currently the QB1 on the Broncos’ depth chart. The shocking reveal comes just over three months after Denver used this year’s No. 12 draft pick on former Oregon product Bo Nix.
What’s even more alarming for Broncos fans is that Nix has been bumped down to third on the depth chart. As it stands, former 2021 second-overall pick Zach Wilson — who was acquired from the New York Jets in April — currently occupies the QB2 spot in the mix.
While depth charts can change as the preseason goes on, the Broncos’ alleged QB of the future being third is somewhat embarrassing. Even if Nix needs more time to develop, you can argue that Denver should’ve targeted a different position at No. 12 if Stidham and Wilson are going to lead the charge this fall.
It’d be different if the duo were two of the best signal-callers in the league, but that certainly isn’t the case.
Stidham, 27, has only made four career starts since being drafted in 2019 and half of those came last season. In his first campaign with the Broncos, the ex-Baylor/Auburn product completed just 60.6% of passes for 496 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and an 87.7 passer rating.
Meanwhile, Wilson’s first year with Denver will be somewhat of a bounce-back mission. The 25-year-old QB has yet to live up to his draft hype and that trend continued when he went 4-7 while tallying 2,271 passing yards with eight TDs to seven INTs in 12 starts with the Jets last season.
Neither Stidham nor Wilson exactly inspire confidence, which is why Nix being the QB3 is amusing to Chiefs Kingdom.
Nevertheless, it probably doesn’t matter who’s under center for Denver this fall. The Chiefs are 16-1 in their last 17 meetings with the Broncos, who haven’t won the AFC West since 2015. For comparison, Kansas City has won eight consecutive titles since then.
Besides, oddsmakers are already liking the defending Super Bowl Champions’ outlook against their AFC West rivals. DraftKings Sportsbook is currently listing the Chiefs as the 9-point home favorites over the Broncos when they finally meet again in Week 10.
