The San Francisco Giants found themselves in an unusual situation heading into the All-Star break.
They have certainly missed expectations since overhauling their lineup, but because the National League Wild Card race is so tight, they are only three games behind and can play their way in if they get hot.
When they return to the field Friday, they will begin an 11-game run until the July 30 trade deadline, which will ultimately determine the destiny of this present team.
If they are unable to demonstrate any form of a turnaround, the Giants’ front office may sell off some components in a market that should favour those trying to offload players to contending teams.
It’s no secret that this season hasn’t gone as planned, prompting president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi to go on local radio and say the campaign has been disappointing.
had though nearly everyone in San Francisco would agree with that remark, it was interesting to hear the architect of this roster express such strong feelings about their present situation before they had reached the halfway point.
Giants ace Logan Webb heard such comments and deemed them a “fair appraisal.”
“That is how I feel, too. There is no other way. We have had both terrific and awful streaks of baseball. The fans have been unhappy, but we’re a highly good club that has to improve in certain situations,” the top pitcher told The San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea.
That has been the corporate line coming out of this clubhouse and organisation for the bulk of the year It’s unclear when they’ll turn the switch.
According to a recent story, Zaidi is under increasing pressure to push this team into the playoffs or else he would be fired, thus they would have to entirely drop out of the postseason race over this current stretch for him to begin trading off some assets.
Fellow All-Star Heliot Ramos feels more optimistic about the team’s prospects, expressing confidence that they would be able to turn things around and play consistent baseball.
“Playoffs are conceivable. I believe we have a very good chance of making the playoffs. I’m ready for the playoffs. We’ll be in the playoffs. “That is something that will happen, and I believe it will happen soon,” he stated.
Ultimately, the players on the pitch will decide whether or not it happens.
