Helene just slammed a tiny town. It might significantly alter the technology industry.

A small community in North Carolina that was just ravaged by Hurricane Helene may wind up significantly affecting the worldwide supply chain for microchips and solar panels.

Spruce Pine, a village of 2,194 people in the Appalachian Mountains, is recognized for its hiking, local artists, and as the only source of high-purity quartz in America. Helene dropped more than 2 feet of rain on the town, damaging roads and shops while shutting off power and water.

But its reach will likely be felt far beyond the small community.
