Following a sad loss against Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s Wimbledon final, he revealed his real colours. Despite his setback, the 37-year-old Serbian wonder complimented his Spanish opponent’s skill level on Centre Court and hailed his squad, remaining composed despite being denied his 25th Grand Slam title.
Alcaraz, 21, won his second Grand Slam of the year after defeating Djokovic on the court, having previously dominated at the French Open last month.
The two sportsmen put on a wonderful performance for viewers all around the world at Wimbledon, with Alcaraz winning the title for the second year in a row 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
And, while Djokovic will be upset to have missed out on the trophy after coming so close, he did not allow emotions get the best of him after the game, displaying a bit of class to his opponent on the microphone.Speaking on Centre Court, Djokovic stated, “He was obviously really hot today,” prompting an applause from the audience.
He went on to say, “Obviously, not the outcome I intended, especially in the opening several sets. My level of tennis was not particularly high, but kudos to Carlos for playing some incredible tennis. He had it all today, from the back of the court to the serve.
“I tried to push him, preserve three match points, and stretch the game a little bit, but it wasn’t to be. Really, he was a well-deserved winner today. So a great congrats to him on his outstanding tennis.
“And, of course, to his crew, Carlos and everyone, family; you’re doing an incredible job, clearly.
“Well, it’s kind of When you’re on the court, you feel like a one-man show, but there’s a whole team of friends and family surrounding you, and all you’ve accomplished so far – at just 21 years old – is fantastic. So keep going; we’ll see a lot of you, I’m sure.
Alcaraz has won four Grand Slam titles in his brief career, including the US Open in 2022, Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, and the French Open earlier this year.
